Setup guide
Setup is easiest when you do it together with your parent. It takes about 10 minutes.
What you need
- Your parent’s Android phone (Samsung Galaxy or other) with Wi-Fi or mobile data
- Your Android phone and a Google account
- A charger – charging your parent’s phone every night works best
iPhone isn’t supported yet.
1. Install and connect
- Install kinguard Guardian on your phone and sign in with Google.
- Create a family and choose what you call your parent (for example, Mom). You’ll get a 6-digit connection code and a QR code.
- Install kinguard Senior on your parent’s phone and enter the code or scan the QR code.
- Your parent listens to the voice guide and agrees on their own phone.
- Your parent reads a few short sentences out loud to set up their voice (about 15 seconds).
- Follow the permission helper to turn on the microphone, notifications, and battery settings. When “Detection on” appears at the top of the screen, you’re done.
2. Turn off battery optimization on Samsung Galaxy
Make sure the phone doesn’t stop kinguard to save battery. The app’s permission helper walks you through this; to check again later, follow these steps.
- Go to Settings → Apps → kinguard Senior → Battery and choose Unrestricted.
- In Settings → Battery → Background usage limits, turn off Put unused apps to sleep, or add kinguard Senior to Never sleeping apps.
- In Settings → Apps → kinguard Senior, turn off Pause app activity if unused.
- If Device care’s Auto optimization is on, that’s fine as long as the settings above are set.
Menu names and locations vary a little by One UI version and model. Searching “battery” or “sleep” in the Settings search bar is the quickest way.
3. Other Android phones
- In Settings, find Apps → kinguard Senior → Battery and choose “Unrestricted” or “Don’t optimize.”
- If you see options like “Auto-launch” or “Allow background activity,” turn them on.
- If a cleaner app is installed, exclude kinguard Senior so it isn’t closed.
4. After the phone restarts
kinguard Senior starts again on its own after a restart. On some phones it can’t; you’ll then see a “Tap to turn back on” notification – tap it once.
If detection stays stopped, you’ll get a “Device issue” alert in kinguard Guardian.
Troubleshooting
- A “Detection stopped” screen appears
- Tap the button on that screen to go straight to the permission or setting that was turned off.
- Alerts arrive late
- Allow notifications for kinguard Guardian on your phone and add it to your Do Not Disturb exceptions.
- I want to redo the voice setup
- Choose voice setup again in kinguard Senior settings.
